“There really is no evidence that stem cell therapy is superior.”

On a recent episode of Bendy Bodies, Duke orthopedic surgeon Dr. Jocelyn Wittstein discussed what current research actually shows about PRP, “stem cell therapy” (typically bone marrow concentrate/BMC), arthritis, and joint pain.

While there is reasonable evidence that PRP may help reduce inflammation and improve symptoms in some people with mild arthritis, bone marrow concentrate has not consistently demonstrated better outcomes in the research.

And in many cases, these procedures are significantly more expensive, more invasive, and require longer recovery.

For patients trying to make informed decisions, it is important to separate marketing claims from actual evidence.
