Swelling management for lipedema and lymphatic disorders is often far more complex than people realize.
On the most recent episode of @bendy_bodies, I spoke with Kasi Grosvenor and Jesse Cochrane from the Lipedema Foundation about pneumatic compression pumps and how these devices may help support lymphatic fluid movement in some patients.
A pneumatic compression pump is a device that fits around part of the body, often the legs or lower body, and uses sequential chambers of air pressure to create a gentle pumping action.
That pressure helps move lymphatic fluid through the tissues and may help reduce swelling, heaviness, discomfort, and fluid buildup.
Sequential compression is also helpful for POTS as discussed in a previous episode with Dr. Alexis Cutchins.
Kasi and Jesse explain how these devices are commonly used in lymphatic conditions and why understanding the lymphatic system is such an important part of lipedema care.
For many patients, swelling is not simply cosmetic.
It can affect pain levels, mobility, fatigue, daily function, and quality of life.
Have you ever tried compression therapy or lymphatic support treatments?
